Winter is here, and with it shorter days, and colder feet. Long working sessions at the desk ask for a nice cup of some warm drink.

Tea, Earl Grey or English Breakfast, depending on the surge I need, are my choice.

We had some real fun, the mood on the set was excellent, and I ended up doing some serious production work, from getting two couples to act for the camera, to providing props for the glue that keeps the films together.

I had access to a preview, and it’s looking grand. The visual story Memeoirs needed.

[Edit] Gluing all the superb imagery together is music by the talented A Ghost Train. That happens to also be one of the colleagues I have had the pleasure of working with on Memeoirs. It’s a perfect fit, really.

How? All the information is gathered in one page so as to keep the visitor focused on the content. While perusing the info she can feast her ears on the beautiful melodies, or sit back and watch the groovy vid.

On previous years we had Clay Shirky, “One Laptop per child” very own Negroponte, and other big shots. This year the lineup is no less amazing.

Needless to say I am excited to be joining the fun, and thankful for the ECB Network invite. I will be presenting Memeoirs and the FitMemes project overall.

How? The original flash-based site was redeveloped, to meet the web-standards and Casa’s needs. The 3 section structure was kept, revolving around the movies that are being shown, and that are part of their archive. An overview of their services, equipments and space is also to be found.

With who? A close collaboration with Paulo Patrício, designer and web-connoisseur.

How? Information on the local weather is updated in real-time on the homepage. A price calculation widget was developed to tell the arriving vessel how much it can cost to hoist at the port, depending on its breadth, length and duration of stay.

How? The core of the club – the different activities – is showcased, and easily accessible via the homepage. There is a strong focus on efficiency of communication coupled with flawless style.

Memeoirs is meant to put emphasis on people’s conversations. To highlight and give a totally new life to relevant communication that happens online. More often than not, important thoughts, feelings, memes are stashed away in some old mailbox, withering away in the digital attic of our e-mail provider.

Memeoirs provides regular people the tool they need to bring these messages back to light, frequently with surprising results. Messages we had forgotten about suddenly receive a totally new light, and can even make us shed a little tear of happiness, when we again peruse our eyes over them. “Did I say that?!” or “Yes, I use to be this sort of coldhearted boyfriend.” are all standard reactions when picking up our own Memeoirs to read.

I have been responsible for the interaction with Paulo Patrício, the graphical designer responsible for Memeoirs’s looks. After receiving his master designs, I proceeded to code them. I did this both for the web application, and for the layout of the books. Many new techniques to learn, many unexplored worlds, many hours of research and implementation.

We have arrived at something new, and utterly fascinating.

I hope some of you are also able to appreciate the reach of our endeavors.

Yesterday we leaked a insightful picture showing how a Memeoirs – the book – can look like. There are other layout options a user can choose from, this being the more classical one. With this post we’re getting the first glimpse of how e-mails may look like once printed on a lovely book.
